Pixelart pictures, but not made of wool but of glass. These don't look so unrealistic and you can light them up at night from the back.
Instead of a creeper, you can of course use anything, even just colorful blocks jumbled together (see Colorful wall). If you take glass panes and not blocks, you save a lot of material.

how do they shine with you?? with me they are completely dark...
It's daytime, everything is so bright^^ Maybe you have your game brightness lower or you use darker colors.
