In this simple trash can, which can be ideally placed anywhere, you can temporarily empty your inventory a little.
Another practical feature is that items can also be thrown in using the Q key.
Instructions:
Place a sign on three sides of the funnel (hold down the shift key).Since a trap door serves as a lid, the bin must be placed against at least one wall, otherwise the trap door cannot be placed.

You could also combine it with the building idea of "garbage cans and garbage collection".
Instead of the signs you could also use frames or paintings

Take all "trash-items" into the inventory (make sure there is nothing important left in it) and give the command /clear ...and you'll automatically empty your inventory. Then your inventory will empty automatically.
you could also put a thrower under the funnel and then the garbage is spit out.for example into a lava lake or into the sewage system!:-)

yes, you could do so, but we always use this as a temporary storage, if you need space in the inventory quickly. Later we rummage around in the trash can and get everything out again.

Good idea, except you could build more funnels underneath which would then funnel the items into storage.
Cool, but already a bit uncomfortable. A cactus, 1 times sand and a block remedy if you have your Loot really wants to throw away:
(The block is for blocking growth).

The trash can is more for decoration. Or to unload briefly when you're full.
