Basically a very nice idea.
But the implementation, well. That's why I want to give you a tip.
What's wrong with running the rail along the pool into a lava pit, and putting a powered activation rail in the middle so you get ejected?
So you don't fly to the other side, just build a 2 block thick wall there and bam....

If you want to be more Indiana Jones, you can replace the water with lava and above where you sit in the minecart an invisible horse that is silent and hangs on a fence post 7 blocks above the ground. This then results in a vine that works.
Command (not sure): /summon horse[silent,invisible,tamed] ~ ~

If you absolutely want to use the material wood, I would use the command /gamerule doFireTick false in the creative (if you are in S simply lan world with activated cheats).
Enter so that fire also spreads.
