The lorry releases pistons as it passes the pumpkins and collects them on the return journey.
Here is a picture of how the machine is built:
When the pumpkins have grown, you can drive past them with the trolley. Sticky pistons go up and the pumpkins fall off. When you reach the end, the trolley pushes off and drives back. On the way back you automatically collect the pumpkins.
