A neon sign made of Redstone lamps and stained glass for a shopping centre, for example.
Behind the stained glass are Redstone lamps activated by Redstone blocks.
You can also use redstone lines and a daylight detector so it only glows in the dark.

Can you show me how fat this is, because I need a neon sign with a certain thickness.
I assume that the 3 blocks deep is. In front the glass, behind it the lamps and then redstone blocks or redstone pipe to save redstone. You can of course also make a wall behind it so you don't see the redstone stuff, then it's 4 blocks.
But you could also make the redstone blocks between the redstone lamps, then there are only 2 blocks.

I built it with a day/night controller, so with a daylight sensor...
