Underground roads to get around quickly.
They are great for multiplayer or for weak computers, because you don't have to load the whole environment.
The driveway might look something like this.
You can also add extensions like a hotel or a drive in.
In snow biomes, the road under the ground is also not covered with snow.
I don't really understand why the roads are specifically for horses and not just for people without horses, nor why that should be faster than galloping on the surface. And why are they especially suitable in multiplayer or on weak PCs?
Actually, you're right. People can also just walk in the tunnels. For weak PCs it is great because not the whole environment must be loaded but only the tunnel. For multiplayer it's great because you don't have everyone running around aimlessly, which you could do on the surface with roads. It is actually calculated like a subway but here you can build intersections easier than with switches.
Good idea, only on low-powered PCs it probably won't make that much difference.
something like that i have built before ... you can grow a whole underground city out of it ... it's cool when you do it in multiplayer with others 🙂

There you can see that everything is loaded anyway.
Idea's no good either.
Supposedly it was changed in 1.8 to not load underground caves etc if you don't see them.
